There are amazing and inspiring people all around us. I've photographed comedians, actors, musicians, politicians, illusionists, sport stars, heads of business, kids, entrepeneurs, hypnotists, philanthropists, mayors, models, TV personalities, fashion designers, architects, radio presenters, surfers, inventors, athletes, artists, authors, film directors, motivational speakers, adventurers, survivors and a few oddballs for good measure…

Truth is, I've been fascinated with people in art for as long as I can remember. From Rembrandt to Avedon, Norman Rockwell to Charles Burns, it seems we're never left wanting for sources of inspiration. It was the disarming honesty of Chuck Close's photo-realistic portraits, along with a handful of 3B pencils that kick-started my ongoing love affair with portraiture. My source material were edgy portraits of actors/comedians and musicians from the pages of NME, Melody Maker, Life, Empire, MOJO and Select. That probably explains my obsession with music as well…

Somewhere between picking up a pencil and picking up a camera, the lure of binary simplicity and the beauty of logic sucked me into what I sometimes think of as an 'accidental' twelve-year IT career. I credit this period in my life with developing a solid work ethic and a love for technology, both of which has stood me in good stead during my photography career.

So, over the last decade-and-a-bit, shoot by shoot and subject by subject, I've been studying the somewhat scientific skill of lighting, and the rather more humbling pursuit of connecting with people. For me, the idea of mastery of ones craft leads to complacency, and that in turn leads to atrophy. So the idea of the perfect portrait remaining just out of reach suits me just fine.

I think the images in my portfolio bear witness to my love for photographing people. If some of them resonate with you, that's a bonus. You never know, we may even work together somewhere in the future.
